Not only do smoke alarms keep you and your loved ones safe, it is a requirement of the NSW Government that at least one be installed on every level of your residence.
Depending on the layout of your home it may be necessary to install more than one smoke alarm, and positioning in the house is important too. Finding the right spot whereby the smoke alarm is efficiently detecting hazards but isn’t going off every time you pop some bread in the toaster is essential.
Smoke alarms also need to be maintained on a regular basis. In order to remain effective, the battery in a smoke alarm should be replaced at least annually and it should be tested and cleaned regularly to ensure it is in working order.
Most smoke alarms don’t last for more than ten years, so it is important to make sure the one that you have in your house is not past its used by date!
